Look Keo Blade Pedal
In a curious coincidence (or maybe not), French rivals Look and Time (next item) introduced road pedals that use a carbon-fiber leaf spring to govern cleat retention. The conventional steel spring is gone. This innovation was one of Interbike's big stories. Look's $499 Keo Blade pedal weighs just 195 grams per pair with a carbon body and titanium axle. Release tension cannot be adjusted but the pedal comes with one of 2 different carbon blades from the factory (stiff and less so), and the blades also can be changed by Look dealers. One European reviewer says this about cleat engagement: "The carbon material's unique spring curve does lend a distinctly snappier and more positive feel when clipping in and out as compared to a conventional Keo. Entry and exit are smooth and fluid as usual, but it's more of a digital scenario — you're either very much 'in' or very much 'out' with no vagueness in between." According to Look, release tension requires more twisting force early in the motion but about the same end torque as for the original Keo. The Blade's body features the wider platform of the Keo 2 Max pedal to increase foot stability. http://www.lookcycle.com
