Cateye Orbit Wheel Light
There were several new products at the Cateye booth but U.S. division head Thomas Prehn was most excited about the Orbit, which costs $10 with a pair of CR2032 watch batteries included). This simple plastic safety light looks like a wheel reflector and attaches without tools to spokes near the rim. It can be carried in a seat bag or pocket and quickly installed when needed. Click it once for flashing mode and again for steady mode (about 50 and 30 hours run time, respectively). The Orbit's orange glow can be seen from all angles. As the wheel spins it looks like a lighted hoop. Prehn says he uses one Orbit per wheel and feels no imbalance. There's a catch, though: The Orbit fits only 32- and 36-spoke wheels with round spokes. But that's what most roadies have on their commuter or winter bikes anyway. The Orbit should be at Cateye dealers in about 4 weeks. http://www.cateye.com
