Gadget’s New Chain Tool
On Sunday's Panache Peloton ride (19 Sep), the Stacey's Road hill claimed it's first mechanical victim – Robyn's chain broke under the strain of the hard push up the hill. Graeme did the noble thing and rode back home to fetch a chain breaker tool, but meanwhile Gadget got onto the job at hand. They say necessity is the mother of all invention. Maybe, but Gadget must be the father. Ever resourceful, he repaired the chain with only nature's abundant gifts (ok, and a tyre lever!). Our photos show Gadget reconnecting the pin with the chain link using two rocks. We were tempted (due to the cold wind) to hold some sticks near the rocks to start a fire to warm us up, but that proved unnecessary, as the job was completed in record time!

Barrie’s New Bike (2)
Barrie may be in Mansfield over this weekend, but his new bike is mysteriously popping up all over the place! The "Pearly" brand name is a nice touch!

Barrie’s New Bike
Barrie has decided to seek solace for the bitter disappointment of his beloved Cats losing the preliminary final and being eliminated from this year's premiership race, in some retail therapy. He has a new bike, complete with "Go Pies" banner (the bike shop threw this in for free!). Here is the first sneak peak of the bike – even before it has been taken on a ride. Note the absence of the traditional drive train – this new model has the Gruber Assist drive, reportedly used by some of the top pros in this year's Grand Tours. Go Barrie!
Gadget Mentor Program
Kudos to the Gadget Mentor Program. The young Gadget apprentice is progressing nicely – on today’s ride, he demonstrated his latest project (a key part of the assessment for becoming a fully qualified Gadget). This latest project is the Inspector Gadget Aircraft Landing Lights for your Bicycle, Mark II. A real beauty – not only does it come in slightly below the earlier version’s weight of 25Kg, but it also takes up all available space on the handlebars, ensuring that you always have the ideal riding position (because you can only put your hands on the hoods or drops!). And these beauties are available at a large sports retail store on special right now!
Join us on our early morning ride, to view these marvels!
